I was born and raised in Northeast Iowa. Being from the “First in the Nation” state influenced my interest in real world politics which led me to major in Political Science (and Psychology) at Central College in Pella, IA -Go Dutch! As an undergrad studying abroad in London in 2007 I interned at British Parliament for Jeremy Hunt, this experience helped solidify my interest in government.
After graduating from Central, I worked for AmeriCorps for one year teaching with the Take Charge of Your Body (a sexual abuse prevention) program for Family and Children’s Council in Waterloo, Iowa. Following that year of service I moved to Washington D.C. to work for my member of Congress, Bruce Braley (IA-01). I started as his Scheduler and Office Manager and eventually moved to the legislative team as a Legislative Aide, running the office’s intern and constituent mail programs, and covering issues including women’s health, religion, and gun control.
After 2.5 years in D.C., I moved to California to pursue a Ph.D. in American politics at the University of California, Riverside.
In my spare time I enjoy hiking, playing with the dogs, and traveling whenever possible.
